The most recent climate negotiations, held in Poland earlier this month, ended with very disappointing results. See here for an analysis from the Climate, Land Ambition and Rights Alliance. But the announcement that Costa Rica and Chile will co-organize the next Conference of the Parties (COP25), after Brazil dropped out, provided an important boost. Costa Rica is a recognized global leader in nature conservation – and in reducing greenhouse gas emissions – which is very encouraging in terms of gaining better recognition of ecosystems, and especially primary forests, as essential in the fight against climate change. The Pre-COP will be held in Costa Rica, while the COP itself will be held in Chile. We look forward to Costa Rican and Chilean leadership at COP25!
